Brown December

There's nothing to ski on here this holiday season. I skied on the lake a couple of times back in November but nothing since then. Hoping for winter weather soon.

Last day of Winter

 The skate skiing was great yesterday even though only the south half of the lake was skiable. Today is probably the last day for skiing on groomed trail at the knob.

Last weekend

 Well this has to be it for the season. All I could do was groom a skating path on the south side of the lake. The road is no good. Skating should be good today and tomorrow.

The skating path is just under a half mile long so you'll have to ski it back and forth. Not very long but it will be enough for a last skiing fix of the season. 

No grooming

 I am out of town so will be unable to groom any trails for the weekend.

 I was surprised to be able to ski the road last night. I groomed the skate deck early this morning for another day skiing.

 The road and lake have been groomed for both classic and skate style skiing. It was 6 below zero when I was finishing up and I could feel the snow setting up very well. It should be a good weekend for skiing!

In process

Rolling of the new snow has been done last night and this morning. I plan to groom tonight with hopes of a good weekend of skiing. I scheduled 2 rollings with the forecast of a major snowfall but we ended up only getting 3 to 4 inches. Nonetheless,  it should groom up well.

After recieving about a 1/2 inch of rain the trails are as hard as concrete. I could probably work some of it up for some skate skiing but I'd rather not do that to my equipment. And I'll appreciate the break this weekend.  Maybe we'll see more snow late next week.

Saturday night

The skate decks on both the lake and road have been regroomed Saturday night so it should make for some good Sunday morning skiing before it warms up.

Friday conditions

 It was a great day for skiing. The skate deck on the road and the new classic tracks on the lake were my highlights. Should be good tomorrow morning also.

 The trail was pretty icy after a warm week. I made multiple passes over the skate decks on both the road and the lake. It should be good skating until it warms up again Saturday. 

I couldn't do anything with the old classic tracks.  But I did groom a new set of tracks on the lake since there is plenty of snow there.

 Beautiful morning at Pilot Knob today! It was neat to see people enjoying the road and the lake.

Tonight, I reset both the classic tracks and skate deck on the lake.  I also regroomed the skate deck on the road.

 The skate decks on the road and lake have been regroomed this morning. 

3 more inches

 I spent 2 1/2 hours working on the latest snowfall . The lake and road will be excellent for classic skiing today. Skating should be decent,  but I do have an issue with overlap berms with this much new snow. It was 6 below zero while grooming so I think it will set up well.

pre-snow packing

 I was out this morning packing the 1" of snow we had yesterday and smoothing out the skier and walker tracks. That will help prep the base for what snow we receive today.  We have a good base, so I'm really hoping for a small snowfall today! :) 

Cold day

 It was a cold ski but the snow sure set up nicely.  Had a dusting last night with more on the way. 

The road

 Yesterday the road was covered with anywhere from 1/2" to 1" of frost. So I regroomed it this morning for both classic and skate skiing.  I also groomed a path on the other side for snowshoers and walkers.

 Pretty day at the knob.

 The road and lake in Pilot Knob have been groomed this morning for both skating and classic skiing. It might still be a little soft today but getting better with each day. 

Rolling 7 inches of snow

 Pilot knob was rolled this morning with plans to groom it Saturday morning.  I was surprised how dry the snow was expecting a wetter snow. So it will be soft for a while. I did put classic tracks around the lake so that should be good today.

New Snow!

After way too much rain on Monday, we just received a very good wet snow.  I was ready to roll it this morning but decided to wait until it gets a little colder.  

Saturday's conditions

 Pilot Knob was once again a beautiful place to ski today!  

Regroom

 The skate decks on the road and lake have been regroomed this morning. The classic tracks are too icy to reset, but are still there.  There was a fresh dusting of snow/frost on the trail,  so the classic tracks might be pretty good once they're 'skier groomed'.

 The skate deck on pilot knob road has been regroomed this morning and should be good today. The classic tracks there look a little icy and rough.  The lake should still be good.

Sunday update

 I did all my skiing on the lake today. The park was beautiful.

 The lake was groomed for both classic and skate style skiing this morning and is in excellent condition. The skate deck on the road was still in excellent condition so I didn't touch it. I did groom a path for the walkers on the walking side of the road.

Friday conditions

 Great skiing conditions on the road at Pilot Knob today.  Should be good all weekend.

New snow

 After a couple of days of rain and freezing rain we received about 1 inch of snow.  I groomed the skate deck this morning. I had to leave the classic tracks alone because of the ice underneath but they were well skied in from yesterday so looked pretty good anyway.

 The skate deck on the road and the lake at Pilot Knob have been regroomed and look very good.  It's too hard and icy to reset the old classic tracks on the road.  The classic tracks on the lake look very good.  

Now we wait and see what kind of rain/ice/snow comes our way during the next two days.  Hopefully it will end up snowing on Wednesday.
