Pre-Season Prep

Out doing some raking today on the ski trail.  There were quite a few sticks thanks to some recent wind storms.

Looks like snow is coming on Monday.  The ground is a lot colder now compared to when we got about 7" last week.  Hopefully this snow will last and we can start grooming next week!

Pilot Knob groomed

Both the road and lake at Pilot Knob State Park have been groomed for classic and skate skiing.  After several passes with the roller yesterday and with the Ginzu today, the road should be well packed.  Today will be great for skiing!

The classic tracks on the golf course should still be somewhat decent with a few spots that bottom out on the grass.

Tracks on golf course

The golf course was rolled again tonight to deal with the soft snow.  Classic tracks were made using the snowmover and tracksetter.  Hope to work on Pilot Knob on Saturday.

Pilot Knob road

The skating lane on the road through Pilot Knob has been scarified this morning.  The snow is old and there are lots of tiny twigs but it still makes for good skating.

Pilot Knob Road

The road through Pilot Knob has been regroomed and was very good for skating.  We need new snow to make classic tracks.

Morning ski at Pilot Knob

The road at Pilot Knob was groomed this morning.  Skating Lane was good before it warmed up.  Tracks went down to the grass in spots.  Really enjoyed skate skiing with 6 others this morning!

Thursday grooming

Tracks have been set on the golf course.  I had to use the snowmover with tracksetter because of how thin the snow was in areas.

The Lodge & Majopa have been groomed for skating.

The skating deck on Pilot Knob road has been rejuvenated with the Ginzu.  The classic tracks are still decent.

Another inch of fresh snow

The skating deck was regroomed tonight on Pilot Knob road after receiving a good inch of snow today.  And it wasn't windy!

Work has been done on Pilot Knob lake but was unable to finish because of pockets of slush under this weekend's snow.  Hopefully it will all refreeze soon so it can be finish groomed by this weekend.

Finished grooming Pilot Knob road

The road in Pilot Knob state park has been groomed for both skating and classic skiing.  The tracks do have some bad spots due to thin snow.  But the skate lane looks great.

February 1st snow

All of the trails were rolled early this morning.  Pilot Knob road was rolled a 2nd time and leveled tonight.  The trails need a night to set up before finishing the grooming process.

The golf course had a lot of areas with no snow thanks to the wind.  Pilot Knob road and lake have good snow coverage.  Will try to get out Monday night to finish up with the Ginzu.

January meltdown

After six days of above freezing temperatures, there isn't too much snow left anymore!  I went skiing on Pilot Knob Lake today but it was in very poor shape.  Hard to believe the lake was so nice just last week.

Pilot Knob grooming Sunday

The skating deck on the road going through Pilot Knob State Park was retouched with the Ginzu this morning.  I left the classic track alone since it still looked pretty good.

Also the lake at Pilot Knob has been groomed for both skating and classic skiing.

The Lodge and Majopa properties are still great for skating but have no classic tracks.

The golf course has not been groomed because of lack of snow there thanks to high winds.

It was great to see so many out at Pilot Knob yesterday!  Enjoy.

Friday night grooming

The trail at the Lodge and Majopa have been groomed for skating and conditions look great.  There was too much snow blown off of the golf course to do anything there.

I took the leveling drag over the road at Pilot Knob to take down some of the drifts.  The plan is to take the Ginzu  groomer over the road early Saturday morning.  It should be ready for a skate deck and classic tracks because of good snow depth.

Groomed golf course

The golf course, Lodge & Majopa were groomed with the Ginzu tonight.  Because of the low moisture content it will probably still be soft.  More passes will be made once the weather settles down a bit.  No classic tracks have been set yet.

Rolled new snow

The golf course, Lodge & Majopa trails have been rolled along with the Pilot Knob road.  Sometime this week we'll take the Ginzu out and finish grooming based on weather conditions.  I measured anywhere from 5 to 8" of new snow from Sunday through tonight!

Happy New Year!

The lake out at Pilot Knob State Park was rolled Wednesday afternoon.  There was only the 1 to 2" of snow that we received last Saturday so there was not much to work with.  There is not enough snow to roll or groom on any of our other trails.
